Horse Properties for Sale in the Northeast of Santa Fe
The picturesque, incorporated village of Tesuque enjoys a rural feel (there are still horse properties here) and is only five minutes north of Santa Fe, just beyond Bishop’s Lodge. Known for its valley of lush vegetation and the Tesuque River, as well as hilltop sites with views and traditional Northern New Mexico pinon and juniper, Tesuque attracts artists, professionals, retirees, second home owners, and celebrities looking to hide out. There is a small commercial community consisting of the landmark Tesuque Market, the restaurant El Nido and Shidoni Foundry.
Almost all the communities located in this area have a view of the entire Rio Grande Valley all the way to the Colorado border on a good day. Small villages are interspersed with newer subdivisions perched on the hills. The secret home of many a celebrity, this area is made up of adobe fixer-uppers and architectural gems. The area includes Los Caminitos, Vista Redonda, Tesuque Hills, Chupadero, Rio En Medio, Pacheco Canyon and Pueblo Encantado.
The neighborhoods of Bishop’s Lodge, Circle Drive and Brownell Howland offer fabulous east and northern views from the foothills of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains. Despite Santa Fe’s many cultural amenities only minutes away, these communities provide seclusion, luxury and privacy.
With creeks and shade trees in abundance, the Bishop’s Lodge area takes its name from the 19thc summer residence of Bishop Jean-Baptiste Lamy. Minimal development over the years has ensured an unspoiled terrain dotted with cottonwoods and piñon trees, full of natural beauty with much of it bordering the Santa Fe National Forest.
Circle Drive is one of Santa Fe’s most prestigious neighborhoods, with spectacular views of the encompassing mountain ranges and hills. Skiing, hiking and the world-renowned Santa Fe Opera is a short drive away.
The Brownell Howland neighborhood is one the oldest and most historic in Santa Fe. These estates and homes feature authentic adobe walls, ancient cottonwood and fir trees, rustic fencing and expansive views across to the Jemez mountains. Many of these properties have horse facilities and are close to trails in the foothills of the Sangre de Cristos. Some of the estates have beautiful, established landscaping on generous acreage with guest houses & artist studios. A short drive away is the Santa Fe Plaza, the opera and the ski area.
